Venice, Florence and Rome Travel date's Sept 11- 20

Hi all,
My friend and I will be taking our first international
tour to Venice, Florence and Rome. We were accepted to go from a waitlist. The biggest challenge is finding afforable airfare. We live in Orange County California and would like to go outbound to LAX. The tour will begin n Venice on Sept 11. We wish to leave on Sept 09 and arrive in Venice on Sept 10. We have called many airlines( Alaska , American, Airlingus, ect). The issue is there is a long layover or the oneway price is
from $900 and up. Meanwhile, the price to travel home from Rome is the same. Currenly we are workibg with AAA Insurance.

Does anyone have any ideas to locate a cheaper flight
that does not involve long lay overs?

Understanable it maybe to late to find a less expensive flights. Thought I would ask anyway.

Any help is apreciated.

Thank you,
Tammy Brewer

When you said you were working with AAA insurance, what does that mean? Is that a travel agent or a third party vendor? Always book your flights directly from the airlines. If you have problems, you need to be able to work with your carrier directly.
Flights are very expensive this year. Set up price alerts on Google Flights and track fares, for your research.
Good luck!

Tammy, instead of looking at one way flights, look at “multi-city” flights, which some people call “ open jaw.”

You can fly into Venice and out of Rome on the same booking. The price will be closer to a round trip flight.

You might also take a look at the Google Flights website to search for tickets. That website will give you a list of flights available for your dates. Use the multi-city option here, as well.

Being flexible with your dates might also give you more choices; arriving a couple of days earlier, for example, might show cheaper flights. Or not, but it’s worth playing with.

the one way price is from $900 and up

Are you looking at booking two one-way tickets? LAX-VCE and a separate FCO-LAX ? If so , you are searching the more expensive way. You should be searching "multi-city" ( aka open jaw)

I found ( on UAL) a multi-city solution for for $1650 , (total , there and back,) . Layover times were about 2 hours each way; one stop each way. ( LAX-EWR-VCE and return is FCO-FRA-LAX)

hey hey tammy
flights are very expensive this year, plus you are going during busy season. as jane says look for multi-city (LAX to VCE then FCO to LAX). do not do one ways. what does AAA mean? many of those people have never done this type of flight or trip and cause more headaches.
also do you have a hotel booked in venice? you are cutting it close for tour and hoping flights don't get changed or cancelled. plus jet lag is real and you may be "loopy" day after arrival. please remember that hotel check in is 3 to 4pm and check out is 10 to 11am, make sure they have luggage storage. you don't want to be pushing pulling it over cobblestones, steps/stairs on the many bridges to cross
how are you getting to hotel from airport? venice has no cars allowed
europeforvisitors.com
look at transportation and what to expect in venice.
september is a very busy month with harvests and festivals, crowded in the main cities you are going to with so many people traveling throughout italy. make sure you have hotel and transportation issues settled before final booking.
want to enjoy your time, let the regular posters here help you out and lead you in the right directions. keep asking questions, people here are fabulous and will tell you good bad and ugly

Use Kayak.com to check for bargain flights. Buy open jaw tickets, arriving in Venice and departing from Rome.

We flew into Milan a few days early and took the train to Venice from there. Milan usually has direct flights from the US. Please look into the multi-city itineraries, if you're calling the airlines instead of looking online at their websites, you're making it harder. \

Also, there is a forum specific for RS tours, where you might get more looks. The General Europe forum is very brod and most people are not on an RS tour.

Do NOT book flights with any company other than the actual airlines you decide to fly with.
Even if it seems cheaper to book with say, Expedia or similar....in the end, if you have any need to change, rebook, claim for anything to do with your flights, it is always WAY easier to deal with the source which is the actual airline company.

I hope you find flights that suit your budget!

I wonder what happened to the OP? I think I'll pop a PM her way. I hope we haven't lost her; she needs us!
