Traveling to Venice and Florence in 2016. Looking for hotel recommendations, 3 or 4 star, w a/c and a lift. Stayed in the Dorsoduro area in Venice about about 10 years ago. It's been decades since I've been to Florence. Any suggestions?

We like a couple of different hotels in Venice, but not all have lifts. One that we liked and has a lift is Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo in Dorsoduro. Easy to get to and very nice people. Sorry, can't help you out in Florence, we don't have a favorite.

My family liked www.casarezzonico.it in Venice (in Rick's book, small, popular) and chose it because it had a ground floor room (but I think still a few steps up to reception).

You may want to post this question in the Italy section instead of General Europe. You might get more responses.
I'm from Florence but with very little hotel experience, since in most cases I stayed with family when visiting. However I would recommend La Scaletta across the Ponte Vecchio, which I think is also one of the ones recommended by Rick Steves. Their rooftop bar/restaurant has a million dollar view.
