Veloce Daypack?

I am looking at a daypack in addition to it being my carryon for books, etc. We are going on a Rick Steves tour in May and I thought the Veloce bag would be best because I can use it either on my shoulder or as a backpack.
But does anyone think this is too big to be used as a daypack while in Europe?

I used Rick's Civita bag and found it very small and light for packing, and able to carry everything I needed during the day.

Hi Beth:

I took the Veloce pack with me on my last RS tour and I have to say I prefer a backpack. It is easier to use. I never used the Veloce as a backpack and carrying something on my shoulder was not that comfortable.

I suggest you get a backpack as you can use this other times on the tour as well.

I was afraid it may be too big. We have backpacks that we use at home for daytrips so guess I'll just use what I have and save my money.
(Although I found them for a good price at Sierra Trading post but they are last years bag before they were redone.)

The Veloce bag is relatively heavy, too, which I was not happy about. It's more of a messenger bag, and for me it's too big.

If youre a messenger bag type vs a backpak - its fine. I have one but havent used it yet. I pref a good back-pack day pak like Northface... something water resist/proof. The namebrands have some nice comfort features like padded backs/straps that may come in handy on long days! check out your local REI or outdoor goods shop (and look for sales too!) $30-70 seem to be the range.
