SO.... I got my first fine in Venice because I was not quick enough to buy the ticket from the conductor. anyways, now I am back in USA and lost the ticket. Anyone knows what happens if I don't pay or how do I even locate it? The ticket auditor took my ID information down on the ticket.
Thanks!
Since you lost the ticket and refused to pay, you don't have many options. If and that could be a big IF, the ticket works like the traffic tickets, they will eventfully send you a bill which will include late payment penalties and other fees. Now it appears that unpaid traffic tickets are being turned over to collection agencies which makes it very expensive. No one has much experience with what happens if the fines are not paid and you return. It is mostly guessing. If is doubtful if it would get tagged if you returned but in these days of ever increasingly data bases who knows how they can track you? You don't have much choice other than to wait and see. It would have taken ten seconds to pay it on the spot - why didn't you? Or did you think it was a scam which is a typical American response when they get caught breaking the rules.
Really surprised you didn't have to pay the fine on the spot. At this point, you cannot do more than wait to see what happens. Parking tickets have taken a year or more to work their way through the system. By the time it gets to you, if it does, the fine will have doubled or tripled. Cross your fingers and wait.
She said I could pay on the spot but I told her to give me a ticket so I can pay by mail since we were on our way to airport and now I can't find that paper anywhere!
I terrifies me that I just have to wait and see what happens and what if it keeps going up and what will happen if I travel to Europe again with this ticket pending on my shoulder?
Michael, do you think Lily is a troll ?
Unfortunately, I got the ticket and I did loose it. I am not even going to worry about it anymore and will DUMP it.
I didn't mean to get on vaperetto for free and was trying to buy my tickets, but life sucks sometime and this will not the end of the world for me.
Oh, so all of a sudden she's not worried and is going to DUMP it. Yeah, trollish for sure.
Easy off. Simple question and she got her answer. Don't have to add attitude.
Lily, My suggestion would be to take a "wait and see" approach. You may find the lost ticket in the near future, and you may or may not receive a request for payment in the next few months. If you do receive a payment request in the mail, you can decide at that time how you wish to handle it. Tickets for transit violations typically double if not paid on the spot and increase from there, so the cost will now be considerably higher. For future reference, the best practice is to pay tickets on the spot. Good luck!
I accidentally tore the tag off my pillow and I am terrified the Mattress Police will show up at my door.
