Day trip or overnight? Just starting to plan. Thank you!!!
have a quick look as you travel through. Don't bother actually stopping, just slow down. A little.
If you take the main rail route between Switzerland and Austria (Zürich - Buchs - Feldkirch - Innsbruck - Salzburg - Vienna), then you go through Liechtenstein without stopping, which is exactly as long as you need. But, without a map you won't realise you are there.
If you really want to set foot there, change at Buchs to a Postbus to Vaduz, the rail route doesn't go through the capital.
If you are driving by Vaduz, stop and have lunch, that is what it is worth.
Rick covered it in his Little Europe TV show "so that you wouldn't have to go."
We were there and did a brief tour + lunch. I think it's worth the stop to say that you have BEEN there. And if you're willing to spend a little, there is a place which will stamp your passport while you're there.
So have lunch, and then consider having your passport stamped. ;-)
[edited to correct the currency as mentioned in a post below]
Walk around the town, grab an ice cream and then hike up to the castle on the hill. Great view of the Alps. Easier to visit if you are driving on your own.
willing to spend a few Euro's....
Liechtenstein's official currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF).
I agree with all the others. It's worth a quick stop to stroll around.
If you're a stamp collector, though, you might want to visit the post office or the Postage Stamp Museum. Liechtenstein is known for issuing some attractive commemorative stamps.

I guess if Rick doesn't have a tour going to a place, or if he doesn't find it interesting, it isn't worth going to.
I'm glad I ignore this type of advice otherwise I never would have gone to Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Innsbruck, the Faroe Islands and even Iceland to name just a few.
Liechtenstein was an interesting stopover for a few hours. It is very touristy but that is during the day. It may be an entirely different place in the evening. I've only been a day tripper.
Thanks for the reminder of the correct currency for the country. I edited my post to reflect that. You can see we didn't spend a lot of time there!

I hate being a killjoy (nah, I actually love it) but in my passport on page 5 there is the following statement, which I will excerpt:
ALTERATION OR MUTILATION OF PASSPORT
Only authorized officials of the United States or of foreign countries may place stamps....in this passport.
If willful, may subject you prosecution (Title 18 U.S. Code, Section 1543).
Is the place charging you a couple of whatever in Vaduz an authorized official of a foreign country?
And remember to pay your speeding tickets.
Yes, Sam, Liechtenstein is a country, and they do stamp passports (or at least they did when I blew through some years ago). It's a major attraction there - which says something about the folks who visit, and the relative pull of other things that a casual tourist might do there. Like many others, it was only a brief stop for me (I was in the neighborhood anyway). Get outta the car, get the passport stamped, grab a light snack, walk around and stretch the legs for a bit, enjoy the views of the pleasant surroundings, OK, back in the car, off you go.
I am well aware that Liechtenstein is a country, and I suppose that some guy at the tourist office may well be an "authorized official", but it still is just a souvenir.
