does anyone have a good recommendations for renting vacation place in Italy (Rome, Venice and Florence)? we are travelling with our three boys, and paying for 2 NICE hotel rooms can be very pricey! we are planning on staying 3 nights in each city this coming June.

We booked through Homelidays.com You might also want to check out Agriturismo (not sure of spelling) it lists Houses and flats to rent. The great thing about renting (long or short term) is they have Kitchens, so you dont have to spend all your money on restaurant meals.

The Slow Travel website is a great resource for finding rentals--there are lots of reviews. Your challenge might be finding rentals that offer such a short stay, but there are probably a few.
