The international courts ruled in favor of Ukraine over a dispute in gas supply payments due to Russia; the primary supplier of Ukrainian Natural Gas supplies. The Russians took exception to the court's ruling and shut off the gas supply to Ukraine. With sub-zero temperatures and a blanket of snow across the nation things are dire with no heat in parts and restricted heating in others. The rising death toll across Europe due to the recent cold will only be worse in Ukraine. Its a beautiful country that is worth the effort to experience, but If you want to visit, you had better double check with your hotel to be sure they have heat; and bring warm clothing.
