My husband and I are celebrating Birthdays and have about a week in the beginning of March. Any suggestions on places? We have air miles to use as well. We enjoy good food, evening life, sightseeing and love to walk. We have been to Paris, London, Scotland and several places in Italy. Any suggestions? I know March is not ideal as far as weather. Thanks!
Southern Spain is perhaps the warmest option. Depending on how many European nights you'll have, you could see Seville/Cordoba and a white town or two, or you could perhaps see all of that plus Granada. If you want to see the Alhambra, though, check on ticket availability immediately. It does sell out.
Andalucia is the warmest, driest part of Europe Barcelona is another option. Both areas have great food and wine, lots to see and do from early morning to late night.
The Canary Islands are worth considering. I went on an eco-tourism trip to Lanzarote in November. It was absolutely fabulous.
love to walk
We are going on this trip just before Easter. You might like something similar. And lots of good food, evening life, and sightseeing in London.
Hello,
I would like to suggest Greece as an option! The first sign of spring in Athens begins to appear in March, as the average high temperature this month raises three degrees Celsius (six degrees Fahrenheit) from February. The average temperature this month is 12°C (54°F), while the average low is 8°C (46°F), and the average high is 16°C (61°F).
You can enjoy the blossoming nature at places like: Athens, Paros, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Rhodes, Mt. Pelion & Meteora (Thessaly), Monemvasia & Mani ( Peloponesse ) .
So, since the temperature is going to be good and the crowds fewer... you might wanna give it a try :)
The accommodation prices will also be low, especially in the islands. The Peloponnese Peninsula and Thessaly region are great for road trips too!
I am heading to Andalucia in southern Spain in late March - Seville/Jerez/Cadiz will be as warm and as dry as anywhere in mainland Europe.
Lisbon would be another good option with a couple of days in Porto. With only a week - where can you fly into that will maximise your time there?
If you want better weather, head for the Canary Islands - I am heading to Fuerteventura next week which is far less developed than Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
This is great. I have a suggestion to visit Ireland - Belfast where one can find Great restaurants, traditional pubs and other is County Antrim - UNESCO World Heritage Sites in western Europe: the Giant’s Causeway which is must visit exciting experience. We are planning to visit the same in between May or June.
I would like to suggest Greece as an option! ... So, since the
temperature is going to be good
I am a great fan of Greece and would certainly encourage everyone to venture there off-season too. However, I would not be so daring as to promise "good" temperatures. The OP is from Phoenix so may not consider an average of 12°C to be "good" temperatures.
Also, in my experience, in the beginning of March you have to be prepared for any kind of weather in Greece. If you are o.k. with that, by all means, go. But don't expect guaranteed sunshine or warmth.
And be aware that Greek hotel rooms may only have the A/C system for "heating" which is not necessarily going to get a room up to comfortable temperatures.
