I booked a flight to Romania this summer in August. After I booked that flight, I found out about a music camp that my professor wanted me to perform at in Germany in July. It was more expensive for me to change my initial ticket, so I bought a second one-way ticket and was hoping I could just take the second leg home. Well, I didn't do my research very well. I've come to find that most likely if I just don't show up, they will cancel my entire booking, and I will get stuck in Europe. Does anyone know if it's possible to tell the airline you will not be on the first leg of your rount trip ticket, but wish to take the second leg home? It seems that that way you're not just a "no show" because you told them....any feedback??
" so I bought a second one-way ticket and was hoping I could just take the second leg home." I wanted to make this sentence more clear... so I bought a one way ticket to Europe that leaves before my round trip ticket, and was hoping that I could just take the second leg of my inital round trip ticket home.
In a word, no. You could fly the first leg and skip the second, but not the other way round.
even if you notify the airline?
You should call the airline and tell them what you've done and see what they suggest. If your initial round-trip ticket is not cancellable, I suspect you can exchange your round trip ticket for a one-way from Romania to the US (for a fee).
You can certainly try calling the airline, but they really don't like people doing this kind of thing. They see it as trying to get round their fees, or trying to put together cheaper fares. Which looks like exactly what you were doing...
telling the airline isnt going to help. Its in the computer- if the computer says you didnt take the first leg it cancels you. (Even if you were on the flight- computers rule)
Telling the airline WILL help, just not in the way she initially envisioned. She'll need to rebook or cancel one of the tickets. Unfortunately it will now probably cost her more than the initial itinerary change fee but she'll lose her entire round-trip ticket if she is a no-show for the first leg.
There was a post just like this on TripAdvisor this week. Short version. Poster got to AMS to fly home and was told "too bad" your ticket has been cancelled. Cost was $1,300 for a one way ticket (which actually was not as bad as I expected) I agree, calling the airline will allow them to give you credit from your current ticket to the one way home, but... it's not going to be an "el cheapo" ticket!
Hi Hope, you should definitely call the airlines, they might have you change your first ticket into a one way ticket for your trip home, of course with a fee. But the airline it the only one that can really help you. Good Luck.
