Using an I Pod Touch

I am thinking about buying an IPod Touch to use during my upcoming 2 week tour of Europe. Being new to the world of more sophisticated MP3's I have a number of questions. But the the most basic question is how do folks charge the device during the trip without carrying their laptop?

Any other tips or ideas on how to maximize the use of this device while traveling would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Eileen,

I've been using This Charger for several years, and it's been great. It doesn't include the Cable, so you'll have to take your charging cable from home.

Happy travels!

Use a wall charger with a plug adapter for Europe. You don't need the "special" Apple one, either. I bought mine at a discount store - it's an off-brand one that has worked great for me for years and cost a third of the Apple one.

I, too, bought a cheap $5 one similar to Steve's off of Ebay. The two "special" features are an interchangeable wall/car plug and a retractable cable. It works just fine, although you will need an adaptor for Europe's electric sockets.

As for other ideas, there have been several posts on this topic by people who are a lot smarter than me ;-) With the Touch, you don't have to worry about data roaming charges, which is nice. However, wifi isn't always available so you may want to pre-load maps, guides, etc. that are available off-line.

This summer will be the first that we travel with an iPod Touch, too. I'm learning all the tricks with it now.

One of the most useful tricks is the "screen shot" feature (push the sleep button and home button at the same time) and it takes a photo of whatever is on your screen at that moment. So when you have a WiFi connection, you look up something that you know you will want to reference later, when you are away from WiFi, then tale a shot of it. It lands in your photos and you can easily look it up later.

I plan to use that function with the "Maps" app and I'll take a screen shot of each step of a driving trip. No need for a paper map anymore.

In the palm of your hand, you'll have music, photos, movies, games, maps, weather, email, the web, and more. It's amazing, really, to think that just 5 short years ago, most of that would not have been possible, or at best, very inconvenient.
