US Online Passport Renewal to start in 2023

From the NY Times:

Following the success of a limited pilot program for online passport renewal this summer, the U.S. State Department says it plans to fully launch an online passport renewal option for the general public in early 2023.

This is being done to lessen the paperwork and time needed to apply. (Great for me as I was planning to renew in early 2023).

The government has a couple years to get the system working seamlessly (if the government is capable of that) before I need to renew mine. Thank you for the information.
