Just saw this - will need to wait and see what happens and if this comes to pass. Hoping not as it just adds more complications for those of us wishing to travel
Take this with a grain of salt. He never tells you his source and he is very biased.
From what I've read it's just being tested when Americans return from overseas-something many European and Asian countries already do. About a year too late but still necessary since Covid seems to be here for the long haul and many European airports already have Covid testing sites.
According to legitimate news sources, stricter testing is being considered but the White House stated that mandatory quarantine was not being considered. (CNN and the Wall Street Journal)
In most areas, getting an antigen test 24 hours before departing for home shouldn't be a problem.
Seems to be real - this is a more reliable travel news source https://thepointsguy.com/news/covid-test-rule-change-us-travel/
Requiring testing within 1 day of departure would effectively shut down travel from many countries - it takes up to 5 days to get test results in NZ at the moment - even 3 days is a bit problematic

Actually this possibility was just reported on CNN…that the WH was in discussions right now
When we flew back to the US from Iceland in September, we had to test 3 days before our departure from Reykjavik. We took a rapid antigen test a half hour before checking in at the ticket counter at the airport and had no problems returning to Denver.
Here's from WaPo, and should be available to all...

... please note these are still just discussions, and the quarantine element isn't even in the current draft. All just talk for now, and to me it feels like the administration testing the waters to see just how much blowback they receive.
I guess we will find out more on Thursday. If we have to go to an antigen test within 1 day of travel, then that will likely boost the BinaxNow test as it gives even more freedom of not having to run to a pharmacy or make an appt at a pharmacy or other provider. I hope we don't get to the quarantine portion since that will kill a lot of travel.
This was reported in the Washington Post with Biden supposedly going to make a speech on Thursday.
So besides passengers, what happens to pilots & flight attendants from both US and international carriers? Flight crews don’t just stay on the grounds of international airports in the days between flights before coming to the US. They certainly cannot be exempted from the quarantine because omicron’s contagiousness doesn’t vary based on one’s occupation. This has not been well thought out.
Eric - thank you for using one of your gift shares of the WP with us !
I believe it is only passengers now. Many airlines already do testing for their employees.
This is in line with what many other countries have been doing as far as testing. Not sure why people are complaining.
Flight crews are usually exempt because of constant testing by airlines and their short turn around time. (Hong Kong is requiring quarantine of crew which is forcing some carriers to cancel flights.)
Some countries require testing prior to departure while others require testing upon arrival. It seems as if the U.S. may require both.
Trying to force quarantine on all including those who test negative will cause a great deal of political backlash.
Right now there is so much conflicting information out there we need to just wait until we have the official word.
Ridiculous to suggest a 7 day quarantine when returning to the USA. That will likely destroy the foreign travel.
