Does this mean that vaccinated Americans can travel on flights other than Covid free flights? Each country setting their own rules defeats the purpose of free travel in the EU. I completely understand the concern, but if countries that are relying heavily on American tourists place a lot of restrictions it is going to deter some travelers.

I understood that different US states have different Covid rules - Europe is the same.

Europeans aren’t travelling outside of Europe at present and are therefore holidaying there, so places are less reliant on American tourists.

It’s only people working in the tourism industry that want tourists back. Most locals don’t want to see lockdowns return and opening up to tourists is likely to increase Covid cases.

Portugal opened up to international tourism and in a month, cases have rocketed from 199 a day to 973 yesterday. The U.K. in the same timeframe has increased from 1,979 cases a day to 9,055 despite 80% of the population having had a first vaccine and 57% have had both. This isn’t over yet, unfortunately.

Jennifer, yes I agree. I am certain, just as in the states, some want complete reopening, some a little bit more cautious.

As mentioned, every member state sets it own rules. But for those that use the EU list, it should mean that tourism from the US is allowed.

What this basically means is that the European delegates to the EU have agreed to add the US, among others, to their green list. It is now up to each individual member to adopt it.

As of his morning, France already has.

To clarify, while each individual U.S. state can control quarantine, they do not have a say as to who may enter the country. As of now, there are no mandatory state quarantines. And as long as you are fully vaccinated, most areas allow people to go without masks. Some individual businesses, as well as health care and public transportation, still require them.

And....

One opened to tourists, one not open. Both spiked.

Not sure that "tourism" is the cause and effect people want to believe.
