urgent itinerary help requested-honeymoon 15 days

Hi,I'm traveling to Europe for my honeymoon in October. We have planned for 9 days between Prague and Vienna. We were so excited about Europe that we extended the trip another 6 days, but this is where the confusion started! Pls advise itinerary for these 6 days.-bearing in mind that we finally have to fly out from Vienna. Options we have considered:
1) Budapest (but seems not so exciting n different after Prague n Vienna)
2)more of Austria (Innsbruck and Salzburg)
3)Italy ( 2 cities)
4)Croatia
5)any other suggestion

Would really really appreciate help as we have no time to plan! The wedding is in 10 days!

For this trip, considering the fact that you need to fly out of Vienna, I'd keep close to the Geography of the original plan. More of Austria. Do NOT ruin your trip by trying to "do it all" in this one trip! As much as it breaks my heart to say this, don't go to Italy. Spend at least 3 or 4 nights in each location, so that you don't spend your entire honeymoon looking at Europe from te window of a train or bus. Drink in the beauty of the cities on your original itinerary, and enjoy yourselves, and relax. The next trip can be for Italy.

Every time you change cities, you will lose a half day of your precious honeymoon time: check out of hotel, taxi/bus to train, ride train, bus or train to next hotel, check in. Get situated, etc...... Remember Arrival Day and Departure day do NOT count, as the day you arrive from an over the Atlantic trip you will be jet-lagged, and will just need to explore the area around your hotel and get on the European time clock. The day of departure (if going directly back to the US) you will not do anything except get up early, pack, and get to the airport! So, while it seems you have a very generous amount of time, subtract those travel days, and subtract the days you will be changing locations, and it's not quite as long as you had originally thought.

I don't know what your itinerary is, but add a few days here and there to each city you're visiting, They're all amazing. Go to Italy next time! Congratulations on your wedding!!! Now, relax.

Prague, Vienna and Budapest are each great cities, and they can be as exciting as you make it. We went to all three cities in April. We started out in each city by taking a "free walking tour"--guides working for tips. They also have pub crawl tours that introduced us to the big, lively beer halls and places the locals frequent off the beaten path. I think a beer in Prague was about $1.05--the only cheap purchase we made in our 5 days there.

I'd suggest starting in Prague and taking a train to Budapest--bypassing Vienna. Then work your way back to Vienna prior to flying home.

All three cities are central locations to do day trips out of--if you're so inclined. I'm sorry but getting from Vienna and Budapest into Italy is simply difficult--and a long way. You could hit Salzburg by train out of Vienna, but it's worthy of a couple of days' time.

I agree, spend more time in the geographic area you've chosen. If you run out of things to do, take daytrips. Save Italy for next time.

Salzburg! Lovely city, small and beautiful! Innsbruck is nice, too, but can be done as a day trip if you want.

Thank you all so much for your inputs. After much thought-we have decided to make the most of this trip as we don't know when we will be able to go to Europe again! So we are planning on doing Switzerland. Leave on 16th morning and need to be back to Vienna on 22nd morning. Can take night train or day train. Would appreciate any inputs on itinerary. Thank u!

One April years ago, we visited Vienna, then Salzburg, then headed to eastern Switzerland (Glarus) where some ancestors had come from, then back to Vienna by train to bike along the Danube river for several days before heading up to Prague. Glarus town and the surrounding area is actually very nice, but we didn't see more of Switzerland on that trip. For major Swiss cities (Geneva, Lucerne, etc.), we've gotten to those on other trips, but came from the north or west and then returned north or west, without crossing Switzerland. So what sights/locations in Switzerland did you have in mind? Depending on whether you want cities or a getaway in the alpine countryside, here's the Swiss rail Website http://www.sbb.ch/en to see timetables and locations. You'll need to enter a Czech, Austrian or Swiss location in the From and the To boxes, then enter a date (remember they arrange their date numbers with day.month.year, so 23.9.14 is the 23rd of September, 2014), and finally the departure or arrival time you want, and the Website will give you the departure and arrival times for the first train meeting your parameters, plus later trains that might or might not get you there quicker or at better times. You can tyoe in Prague and Vienna, but the timetable will come back listing them as Praha and Wien, spelled as the locals do.

Salzburg is great. For your time in Vienna, were you already planning a trip up the Danube (by boat, bicycle - which you can easily rent at any train station, or other means) to see Melk and its fabulous abbey? Other sights along the river are wonderful, too. Also, in between Prague and Vienna, is Cesky Krumlov on your itinerary? It's a great spot that would be special on a honeymoon, too.
