We are planning a river cruise this September and can't decide which river cruise - Upper or Lower Danube. We narrowed it down to Avalon cruise line.

Great question. I have visited, via land, most of the Avalon stops on the Upper Danube heading west from Budapest. If this will be your first chance to visit Vienna, then I suggest the Upper Danube as I think Vienna is one of the world's great cities.
If you have already been to Vienna and other Austrian and German cities along the Danube or the Rhine, then the Lower Danube sounds very interesting.

We have booked a cruise from Regensburg, Germany to Budapest for next July with Gate 1 Travel, great price and great itinerary.
