Friend saw a blurb on the cruise critic site that indicated if one renewed a passport one had to update the Global Entry info. We renewed our passports but didn't update our Global Entry information, went out of the country and returned using Global Entry line without a problem. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Was your return before the expiration date of your previous passport?
When my passport expired and I was issued a new one, I logged into the global entry website and updated my passport info (passport number and I think expiration date). I thought this was required based on what the person who interviewed me told me originally. This was back in 2015.
I just looked at the CBP website and am not sure it was necessary

Here is what the FAQ says:
Your Trusted Traveler membership date is not dependent on the passport expiration date. Membership will remain valid, even if the passport expires. To minimize unnecessary delays, please update your documents on the TTP website.
I recently had to update my new passport & drivers license in my profile under the Global Entry site. www.ttp.cbp.dhs.gov

Not sure if it was before or after.
The language about your trusted traveler expiration not being linked to your passport expiration is so you know you won't lose that when your passport expires. It is not saying you don't have to update your passport info when you renew it.
You would think the government would automatically take care of updating your Global Entry info.

Really? LOL

But it is also not specifically saying that you must update your passport info. The website says, ”To minimize unnecessary delays, please update your documents on the TTP website.”
I assumed that updating the documents was required, but that wording seems to only imply that you could be delayed.
Regardless, it is easy to update the info online.
To minimize unnecessary delays,
In other words, to have the GE kiosk not print out the dreaded ticket requiring you to be sent to the "special" room for a strip search, you better update your info.
