Update on "Middle-aged equivalent of 1990s backpacking trip through Eastern Europe"

More than a year ago I posted on the forum asking for advice on planning a trip that would be the "middle-aged equivalent of 1990s backpacking trip through Eastern Europe." I got lots of ideas and some questions to think about. Thank you to everyone who replied.

I wanted to report back and let you know that my best friend and I did two weeks on the Camino Frances last month. It was amazing and EXACTLY what I was looking for. Exercise, beautiful scenery, good food, very affordable and an amazing sense of community. We carried our own backpacks and stayed in albergues that we booked as we went. I cannot wait to do a full Camino as soon as I can save up the vacation days again. If anyone has it on their bucket list - DO IT!

Well done! Congrats!

My wife and I are going back for bit of the camino later this month-- my wife's sister is doing the full camino Frances after her spouse died and we decided to do 10 days with her.

That's lovely! Looking fwd to the recap. Had a bit of a chuckle as well, given that had I done a backpacking trip in the 1990's it would've been a middle-aged one 😂

This was nice to hear, Heather S, and I appreciate your post. You must’ve eaten much better, if a bit pricier, than 1990’s backpackers who were pinching their centimes/pesetas.
