United Travel Ready for upcoming trip to Malta

Hello,
We have an upcoming trip to Malta with layover in Frankfurt. As far as I know, there are no Covid related travel requirements from either Germany or Malta. However, United Travel Ready is telling me that I "might need 2 different type of Covid tests". We tried to scan our passports but were unsuccessful, so no way of telling if we actually need to submit our CDC cards.

Just wondering do we have to complete United Travel Ready before we fly out?

Yes, you'll need to complete the steps prior to checkin or boarding. My United boarding pass had "Travel Ready" printed on it for my May flights to destinations in Europe that had Covid entry requirements.

Each time I've gone through United's Travel Ready process (about 6 or 8 times) entering my passport details was Step 1, which preceded any Covid related requirements in Step 2.

For my United flights to destinations that no longer have Covid entry requirements, I've not needed to submit my CDC card and Step 2 was just a quick click through. As a US citizen, that now includes return to the US. Non US citizens have different requirements.

Happy, when is your trip? I had problems scanning my passport on United Travel Ready. I contacted United and was told that I could not scan until 72 hours before my trip. That didn't sound right. So about 45 days before, I tried to scan again. It took it. I land in LHR and did not need to provide Covid info. The outbound scan did not roll over to the inbound. So about 60 days out from returning from Venice, I tried to scan my passport and it took it. Originally it showed I needed to provide Covid info but updated the next day to not needed.

horsewoofie, our trip is end of the Aug. i just tried and was successful in scanning my passport, then it showed no covid requirements for my destination. However, regardless of what I do, (holding passport up, setting it on the table, etc) I couldn’t get United to take my mothers passport. Her passport is new (renewed in 2021). When we get to the verify your passport info step, it left several things blank like birthday etc. it’s just annoying especially there is no covid requirement.

Edit to add, the notice with “your destination may require 2 different types of covid tests” didn’t go away despite United travel ready says there is no covid test required. I

I am having the same issue. I have tried uploading our passports, confirmed them online with UA and then when I go to the Travel Ready Center it says that I need to upload the passports. Been there done that. So frustrating. Our flight is Tuesday. I will try 72 hours before and see what happens. I guess I’ll need to save them on my IPad or phone for the flights home. The website also says that this is to save time at the airport and that you can scan the passports at the kiosk at the airport which is what we normally do.

I never "scanned" my passport... just entered the data from it into the form. Is there an option to do that for your flights?

For those reading this thread who don’t have/use a smart phone, there is no way to download your passport using your computer. United’s system won’t allow it. Just thought I’d let you know that is not an alternative.

Ah, good to know horsewoofie. I used my laptop to type my passport details into the form, so I never even knew you could scan it. Clever!

CWsocial, yes you can enter passport info but it tells me I would have to scan it at the airport. I think we are going to just enter it.
