Hi guys! I'm going to be in Florence in May (specifically May 20 - 24), and I was wondering if it was necessary to book tickets for the Uffizi and Accademia; since it is May, will there be the long lines at the entrance that are there in peak season? I was thinking about booking online, but those prices are practically doubled! I'd really like to save the money, but is it practical to think my friends and I can just get in the day of in May?
I would always book ahead for those two. Call your hotel and let them book for you. At worst they cost you a few euros in tips but you know you can get in.
For both, as Doug says, and especially so for the Uffizi. See the 3rd post in this thread clickSee the 2nd post in this thread clickand see the 2nd post in this thread click
Lines at the Uffizi may be different 5 to 6 weeks later when Laura is going to be there the end of May. I would recommend taking the 10 minutes to make a reservation now, at least for the Uffizi, rather than unnecessarily risk being in a very long line at the end of May.
I visited both the Uffizi and the Accademia just two weeks ago. We made our reservations two days prior to our visit from our hotel in Florence without any problems. Surprisingly the crowds were not bad at all, everyone in Italy are saying less tourist because of the euro.

I very rarely get reservations but did for the Uffizi and Academia. We were there in October. The lines were quite long. With our reservations we walked right in.
Since I travel with only an itenerary outline rather than a strict schedule, I didn't get our reservations before our trip. When we arrived in Florence, I reserved for a day or two later in the week (I can't recall which). It worked out perfectly for us but might be a dangerous idea as the crowds get bigger.
Thanks for all your help guys! One of my friends actually emailed the hotel and they did the reservations for us in the end.
