Two weeks starting in Paris and ending in Amsterdam

My husband and I are flying into Paris on May11 and flying out of Amsterdam on May 26, and we are trying to decide how to divide up the time in between. It looks like we can JUST catch the end of tulip season in Amsterdam if we make it there by May 21, but we are worried that will be too much time for Amsterdam and the surrounding towns.

Also, my husband's only goal for the trip is to drive the Nurburgring. So, we will need to venture into Germany at least to Frankfurt, Cologne, or Bonn to allow him that day trip.

I know Paris is probably worth that whole week, but we did our honeymoon there and got to see most of what we wanted to see. I imagine we will take a couple of days there, but not as much as others might.

I'd love to go back to Munich (I was there for a few days several years ago), but I'm not sure if that makes sense given that we need to be heading north from Paris eventually. As you can see, I'm all over the place! I'd love some pros/cons on more time in France v spending the bulk of the time in Germany/Netherlands.

Everyone has their preferences, mine is France, then Netherlands, then Belgium. And pretty as tulips are, keep it in perspective. And unfortunately for us tourists, the blooms follow the weather which is unpredictable. It would be a shame to rush to get to Amsterdam in a year when they blossomed early. On the other hand, there's lots to see and enjoy in Dutch towns - The Hague, Haarlem, Utrecht . . .

Looking at a map, one route would be Paris, Cologne (for access to Nurburg), Brussels/Ghent/Bruges, Netherlands. How much time will you spend in Nurburg?

I am hopeful that we could do one day in Nurburg. I imagine that my husband will want to get to wherever we are staying the night before (Cologne/Frankfurt/etc.) and get settled in and then head to Nurburg first thing the next morning. I can't see that taking more than a day; so, I think he would be fine with moving on that evening.

We are doing 2 weeks starting in Paris and ending in Amsterdam as well but in August. We're doing 7 nights in Paris with 2 day trips, 2 nights in Bruges, Belgium, and 4 nights in Amsterdam.

I would start off in Paris. Have you been to the Loire Valley to see the castles? Mont St. Michel?, Versailles? All easy day trips.

This route puts you moving toward your end destination without backtracking. Brugge is only an hour from Brussels which you pass through to get to Koln.

May 11 - May 15 Paris
May 16 train to Brugge. Brugge is a 2.5 to 3 hour train ride from Paris with one or two changes.
May 16-17 2 Nights - Brugge/Ghent - Stay in the city of your choice. They are close.
May 18 Train to Koln for Nurburgring.3 to 4 hours with one or two changes.

May 18-19 -2 Nights - Koln 59 Km away according to Nurburgring website or closer.

May 19 Nurburgring
May 20 Train to Amsterdam.
May 20- 26 Amsterdam After the flowers and city, take some day trips. Others can help you with day trips from Amsterdam.

This should allow you to get there by the 21st.

You list 4 places over 15 nights on the ground.
I'll throw in a 5th (Alsace) to make it an even 3 nights in each.

May 11 Arrive Paris
May 14 To Strasbourg
May 17 To Munich
May 20 To Koblenz (for Nurburgring)
May 23 To Amsterdam
May 26 Depart Amsterdam

@csu15269 - We have literally only done Paris, with a day trip in Versailles, but we have seen nothing else. My husband is very down on the idea of staying in Paris for any length of time because "we've already been there," but I'm hoping Nurburgring will help!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! It seems like no one thinks heading south to Munich is a good idea...so I may just rule that out completely.

Since you've already been to Paris, why not go to places near Paris-like Chartres, Loire, Rouen(sp?), Giverny?

Giverny & Rouen would be a great day out from Paris in the spring of May.

Without Munich ...
May 11 Arrive Paris
May 15 To Strasbourg
May 17 To Koblenz (for Nurburgring)
May 20 To Belgium
May 23 To Amsterdam
May 26 Depart Amsterdam

Hi,

Since your interest is in car racing, ie Nurburgring, I would suggest going to Hockenheim near Ludwigsburg. That may interest you too. With 15 days I would recommend staying in France and Germany, split the time between these two countries.
