Two weeks road trip start and end in Munich. Sugguestions needed please!

We are a couple in late 20's and we are planning a two weeks road trip starts this weekend. We are based in Munich so we prefer not to go somewhere that we can do on the weekend or as a day trip. (I am leaving Europe next month and back again March next year so we will save Northern Europe and Eastern Europe for next year)

We will drive and camp. We would love to go hiking, swimming and seeing history. There are so many things to see and so little time!

Here are our list of things to see, please kindly advice if you think we can save some places for the less busiest months in April -May instead.

Day one: Munich - Lienz, Austria through The Grossglockner High Alpine Road (is that possible?)

Day two: Lienz, Austria - Venice (parking our car at Mestre, Venice)

Day three: Venice - Milan (possibly camping at Lake Garda?)

Day four: Milan- Täsch, Switzerland (then train to Zermatt)

Day five: Täsch, Switzerland - San Remo, Italy(possibly lost a whole day)

Day six and eight : Around the French riviera

Day eight: Cassis, France

Day nine: Verdon Natural Regional Park

Day Ten: Verdon Natural Regional Park- Lyon

Day eleven and thirtheen : Lyon- train to Paris and back to Lyon

Day Fourteen: Lyon -Munich (long drive!)

You can see that I have no clue at all..what do you think about our plan? we want to see Matterhorn and we think that April-May should be expensive than now?

Any suggestions is welcome! Thank you so much!

My first thought is that all you will be doing is spending time in a car. You will have very little time to actually see anything with this plan. Have you calculated the travel time for these places? I think if you do, you will see what I am saying.

What are your highest priorities to see?

Thank you! We would love to go to the nice beaches and from what I've heard, the beach in Italy will be packed and French Rivera might be nicer.

We actually want to go to Rome and spend more time in Italy, but then again we figure that April - May might be a better time for Italy.

What we want to see most is beaches, nice lake, matterhorn and history (which pretty much everywhere in that area, I guess?)

There is a website, distancesfrom.com, which gives you driving times between each location and a map. You can add as many stops as you need. Give it a try and see if your route is doable.

Thank you so much! I used Google maps but sometimes it's not that accurate (plus traffic, finding places to stay, setting up camp etc etc). Will have a look!

Great APP you should download: Rome2rio. When you type in your start point and destination, a map comes up showing the driving directions, along with the drive time to get there. For those of us who take public transportation, it also shows the methods of travel to get to the destination. I love using this when planning trips.

Will do! I think we may just cut Paris and spend more time in Italy if it's more reasonable. Thank you so much

If you get to Switzerland you will need a Swiss Vignette (costs CHF 40) affixed to the windscreen - cameras and live enforcements.

Are you really intending to drive all the way from Austria (Austrian Vignette costs around €10 and needs to be attached to the windscreen following instructions, strict car and camera enforcement) to Venice - tag you're it - and drive all the way to Milan the next?

Are you aware that you need to camp in proper campgrounds - you can't wild camp.

Have a good time on your adventure - I hope you don't get tired of driving.....

We are based in Munich and we already have both Swiss and Austria vignettes so we don't have to pay for that :-) Just moved to Munich a month ago and been doing weekend trips to Switzerland and Austria a few times now :-)

After reading the replies, we may just go to Slovenia, Croatia and Italy instead as its closer. Will airbnb and camp!

I'd prefer to be driving only every 2nd day.
Even without Paris you have a tight schedule.
You may still need to drop one of Tasch, Cassis, Verdon.
Day 1. To Lienz
Day 2. To Venice
Day 4. To Milan
Day 5. To Tasch
Day 7. To San Remo
Day 8. To Cassis
Day 10. To Verdon
Day 12. To Lyon
Day 13. To Freiburg
Day 14. To Munich

If France is your preferred focus then consider flying Munich to Nice, and returning from Lyon/Paris.
