Two Americans traveling to France, Greece and Italy for a month

Hello and thanks for having this forum.

We will be in France, Greece and Italy for one month this summer. We were in Europe in 2024 when things were…uh, not as “hot”. Any advice on how to behave/proceed other than being polite, contrite and respectful?

Curious what your comment about not as “hot “ is refering to.

Honestly, you’ve answered your own question. Be polite and respectful.

Of course be polite and respectful. Travel as you did before if that worked for you. Nothing is different now. There's no need to be contrite unless you have committed some sort of offense, which you might do if you aren't polite and respectful, but you're a tourist helping to keep tourism afloat in 3 countries, and locals won't expect you to know all the niceties or to act just like they do.

Buy some Canadian iron on patches and maybe buy a ball cap with a maple leaf on it (do not get a red one) Say eh instead of huh.

I was in Spain in February, and everyone was very kind to me, and the hotel owners told me to come again. My advice is to be extra respectful & very kind. Observe & sincerely thank workers on what they’re doing well. Be patient in lines, use all of the courtesy words in their language.

I had a nice conversation with a college age man while waiting for a delayed train. We talked about a variety of topics & he mentioned politics. I made a few gestures, we both nodded & that was it.
