Tuscany or Provance?

We will be spendy about 2-3 weeks in Tuscany and Provance. Which area will we be most likly to spend the most time? We are traveling by car. It appears that Tuscany area is a little larger and therefore more likely. All perspectives greatly appreciated.

Both are terrific you cannot see everthing so concentrate on sections and see those well from a home base like Siena, It. or Arles for Provence. Forget that the acreage is greater in Tuscany. Mostly Hilltop villages are the draw while varied village hamlets are key in Provence. ok to split your time in half you will not be disappointed.after many trips I still find new things to see every visit.most imp. slow down savor a wonderful meal in a village as u visit.

I am going next year and will be spending more time in Provence. I speak French and have more interest in France in general although I am really looking forward to Tuscany.

That being said, I think it is simply a matter of personal preference. They are two of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe so you can't really go wrong with either.

I would start by watching the Rick Steves episodes on these regions here or on Hulu if you haven't. That should give you a good feel for each.

We spent a week in Tuscany last fall and 2 weeks in Provence this spring. Towns in Tuscany take a little more time to get to because of the hilly terrain. The villages of Provence have wonderful markets (if you like that sort of thing) and you can find one every day of the week.

Our base for Tuscany was near Montepulciano and for Provence it was near Maussane. If we were going to Provence again, we'd base ourselves in or near St. Remy.

There is so much to see in Provence--I'd spend more time there (though I also love Tuscany.)

A GPS is very helpful for both regions!

Two years ago we spent 2 weeks in Tuscany and this year just got back from a trip to France which included 2 weeks in Provence (lavender and sunflower season). Luberon villages are beautiful but we loved Tuscany. Pienza, Montepulciano are gorgeous and then there are mighty Firenze and Siena. Have fun.
