Turkey Travel Visa

My wife will be traveling to Turkey this July. She will be meeting a group there (other Americans). Does anyone know how the travel visa process works in Turkey? Is is simply something she fills out at the airport? Is it more complicated? It would be a simple tourist visa - she'll only be in the country for 10-12 days.

Thanks :)

Turkey changes their rules periodically. Eight or nine years ago I didn't need one. A couple of years ago, I did. Way long before that I also did.

It's no big deal; you get it as you enter and it's more of a tourist tax than anything since they don't fiddle with any database, just stiff you twenty bucks or so and slap a sticker in your passport.

It has to be paid in cash. I was without turkish pesos at the time and they took dollars. The couple in front of me was from somewhere else, so my wife made them a five minute loan which they repaid from an atm.

Completely painless.

I just did this a couple of weeks back. As others have said, you hand them the money (have USD 20 cash) and they put a sticker in your passport. A couple of notes: 1) Be sure to get the visa, which is at a separate window, before getting in the passport control line. 2) If you don't happen to have cash, there is an ATM next to passport control 2. There is also a visa window there, but when we went through it was closed. (Only the visa station next to passport control 1 was open, but only passport control 2 was open.)
