TSA pre check - international

Hi. My husband and I have an appt to get our TSA pre check approval. A local travel store recommended getting the 'international designation' also, to help really speed things up. I can't find any info pertaining to this though on the TSA site. Does anyone know about this? And how to apply for it ? Thanks in advance for the help.

They are probably talking about the Global Entry program. It has been discussed here a number of times, and if you search on "Global Entry" in the search box above, you should find a lot of information about how to apply. It costs a bit more than the Pre Check program.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is an US government institution. It only works in the US. There is no such thing as an "international designation." Global Entry program is the Immigration and Custom bureau and is part of the trusted traveler's program. It is designed to speed up re-entry to the US from traveling abroad and has nothing to do with leaving the US - only coming home. The Global Entry program "as a courtesy" includes the TSA precheck program. The reverse is not true. Since you have already applied for the pre-check, there is nothing you can do to change to Global Entry.

CBP with the Global Entry program (GOES) has entered into arrangements with partner countries to facilitate travel to the following countries. The benefits vary wildly so check each one out independently. Some require applications and payment, others not. Have any forum members actually successfully applied for and received Global Entry reciprocity with any of the above listed countries? I would be interested in hearing any success stories.

MrsEB, that's good to know. I need to look into the benefits in Germany and how to do it as we go through the Frankfurt airport at least 5 times a year, in one direction or another.

For those who have commented on the availability of interview dates for Global Entry enrolment, I just filed the paperwork to renew my Global Entry and was given a lot of options for the interview. Granted, 30 days off, but reasonable.

I got a notification asking if we wanted to apply for the UK Trusted traveller program, but it was 50£ a year and we don't travel through the UK enough to make that worthwhile. We have GOES.

Here is an article from "Travel & Leisure" magazine describing Global Entry and Pre-Check.

Thanks very much for all the responses, they helped a lot. And the article that Teresa left a link for was especially helpful.
