Troubles with American Airlines

Has anyone travelled with American lately? My trip to Europe is in 2 weeks and I am freaking out by what I have been hearing. I fly out of Orlando to New York - have a 4 hour layover, then fly to Barcelona. My cruise is not until the end of the week but I do not want American's labor problems to affect my itinerary. Any had problems with them? Appreciate your comments.

I flew with American last month to Paris from Texas. Had no problems what so ever with them. I thought I had ample leg room as well, but I'm only 5'7". Food was so so.

I might recommend buying a travel insurance policy since AA is having so many problems at present. There are policies that cover delays over a certain amount of time and missed connections due to delays/cancellations. Who knows what will happen, but that might give you a little more peace of mind. I have family flying with AA to Europe next week...hope it goes okay for them (and you). Good luck!

If you are considering a travel insurance policy, check to see if AA is on the excluded list. I saw them listed for at least one company (can't remember which) when I was researching medical/evacuation coverage for an upcoming trip. Also, if you booked your air with the cruise, the travel agent should help you in case there are delays. Chances are that you won't have any problems but it would be good to be prepared with a backup plan just in case.

They grounded a bunch of 757 planes to fix the loose seats. Apparently 40 or 50 flights were cancelled Thursday and Friday, but hopefully that problem has been solved.

Gladys, There was a really good article in The Wall Street Journal earlier this week re: American and strategies for surviving your travels if you have a ticket with them. You could probably Google it and find it on-line. Key points: 1) Suggested buying a REFUNDABLE back-up ticket on another carrier, that way if you run into problems you could always use that ticket instead (or get a refund if you don't need it)....now, of course, I realize that could be complicated if the problems begins at your layover point. 2) Suggested buying membership to the airline club.....I think it is called the Admiral's Club, which I think the article said was only $50 for a one-time type membership. The point is that they referenced the more experienced agents man the desk at the airlines club lounge, so you could get better assistance without the very long line that might result with agents at the gate. And, I think you get free nibbles, wifi, etc. at the airline lounges (someone else will need to chime in on that). And, one last point the article made is that if the delay is over a certain time frame, the airline is required to give you a refund (not a voucher for future travel). Good luck with it. It is sad to see American having so many issues. Find the article, though, it's good reading. And, if you can't find it on-line,
private message me, and I'll send you the link (I sent the article to several friends the day it appeared). O

Just returned from Hawaii on American. No problem with any of our flights to Hawaii or back to Houston. Every flight was on time and all staff and crew were friendly and polite.
