I just want to mention when we did the walk in 2008, the ground was loose rocks and dirt. It was mid-Sept, so we weren't wearing sandals, but you may want to mention to people to have good sturdy shoes...flip flops would be killer, and with sandals, there will be very dirty feet (have some wet wipes handy) and prob lots of stopping to dislodge rocks.
