We loved Germany! Munich was a delightful surprise. We also love the Rhine. We stayed in Bacharach and trained to Basel. I love Italy and would recommend Florence or Tuscany. We caught the TGV to Paris from Switzerland and it was very easy. I suggest looking at Ricks videos of the areas or if you have a specific interest try to narrow it down that way. Also make sure that the town doesn’t shutter in the winter.

Karen,

To get to one of the countries listed and back to Zurich will eat up almost 2 of your 4 days traveling. Why not just enjoy Switzerland? (Lucerne and Bern) are very nice cities to visit and very close to Zurich by train, (less than an hour each). You could also be in the Alps in 2.5 hours, although the weather is unpredictable. My recommendation is to stay in Switzerland.

I agree with Threadware: stay in Switzerland. The only other country that makes sense is France if you stick to the Alsace. You can get to Colmar or Strasbourg easily from Zurich by train.

I would suggest to spend what I assume to be 3 nights either in Luzern, or in Colmar, France. Don't fly somewhere else: you waste at least half a day every time you fly.
If you have 4 nights and not 3, you could go deeper into the Alps (e.g. Wengen), but weather can be marginal at that time of the year. Luzern is a good base for Alps day trips anyway.
