Trip Insurance for a river cruise

We are taking a river cruise along the Rhine in late June. We opted for the travel insurance offered by Viking, but at over $300 per person, we're not sure that it's worth the price. Due to covid concerns, as well as the war in Ukraine, it seemed prudent. We have a couple of days to opt out, and I was wondering if anyone on here has any thoughts re: travel insurance during these times.

I think travel insurance is always warranted if you have thousands of dollars tied up in nonrefundable reservations. Travel medical insurance is also warranted unless you have the disposable cash to pay for an unforseen injury or catastrophic illness. Whether or not your cruise insurance is "worth the price" depends on just what is included or excluded.

You might look at other travel insurance policies, comparing apples to apples, and see how your current policy stands up. Try a couple of brokers like insuremytrip, squaremouth, or the insurance store, where you can compare diffrent policies.

Trip insurance for cancellation is expensive no matter where you buy it.

I usually buy the cancellation/interruption insurance when I purchase my air fare for flights.
For a cruise, i might purchase it as well.

When I don't have a cruise or tour booked, I usually only purchase insurance for medical coverage and evacuation, which is not very expensive. I don't need the cancellation/interruption since I never pay in advance for hotel or day tours that I book in advance. Most lodging can be cancelled 24 hours prior to the day of arrival.

I usually book this insurance with AmEx.

I've not been on a cruise so no experience there but I do purchase travel insurance for my tours (Rick Steves and Road Scholar) from an independent company. Well, Rick doesn't really offer insurance but gives you a referral to TravelGuard. Road Scholar does offer insurance but I'd rather do it on my own.

I'd probably book it for a cruise BUT be sure that it covers what you think you want it to. Some policies which I looked at before the Ukraine War explicitly did not cover war as a coverage item. Covid has also changed the way policies are written. Most will not cover if you just have a "concern" about Covid but may cover if you or a family member test positive, etc.

Go to Squaremouth or Insuremytrip to compare.

Many thanks for the replies & referrals to other trip insurance companies. I will check those out.
