Hi, family of 4 with 2 well traveled college aged kids looking to make a quick 10 days-ish trip (incl flights over) to Switzerland, Lake Como, and Austria in Aug. We need to make the most of our time so planning to make use of flights between places or high speed trains . Mainly interested in beauty of places, shopping. Kids tend to get ready to move on after about 2 days in a place so want to hit the highlights, obviously can't see everything. Could someone recommend 1-2 best places in Switzerland and in Austria? .. Looking for itinerary suggestions in all 3 countries to make the most of the time that we have.
Thanks,
Mary
You should let the forum know which city in Europe you are flying into and out of roundtrip first in order to get an idea of a logical itinerary.
Switzerland, Lucerne and the Berner Oberland( most beauty) Grindelwald, Wengen, Murren.
For shopping, I suppose Vienna. I am not a shopper so really can’t help with it. Vienna has scrumptious pastries!
If you want to add Austria, could you fly into Munich and out of Milan? Geneva isn't very well positioned for what you are trying to do.
A no-flying route that came to mind if you are able to do so is the following:
- Arrive in Munich, head to Salzburg
- Salzburg
- Salzburg - Salzkammergut day trip
- Salzburg - Luzern
- Luzern
- Luzern - Pontresina
- Pontresina - Varenna
- Varenna
- Varenna - Milan
- Fly back home from Milan
It's fast-paced, but in your time frame it has to be fast-paced anyway.
Yes we can definitely change our flights in and out to different airports. Thank you! We are just trying to get an idea for an itinerary that makes sense while letting us see waterfalls, beautiful lakes, mountains and idyllic towns.
