I've read many posts about the challenges purchasing tickets with US credit cards on the trenitalia website.
My first and only attempt with a Captial One Visa Signature this morning and surprisingly it was a success! Took less than 2 minutes to select 2 trips and submit the order. I was happy to get the extra menos 30! :-)

Wow! Way to go. I used to be able to purchase with my credit card but that was shut down some time ago. I even have a Verified by Visa setup. Question. Did you get your ticket printed out with a PNR number on it?
Yes surprisingly I received 1 email with
2 pdf attachments with full itinerary and pnr codes! I hope it works again because I have to buy a few more tickets. They have an option to "gift" tickets to others also.
Thanks so much for your posting! After about 25 previous unsuccessful tries to book a ticket on the Trenitalia site, I grabbed my Capital One Visa card and gave it another try - success! I, too, was able to get the meno30 fare.
Aww Steve! Did you jinx me? :-) I tried to purchase my remaining tickets and it got denied as well as several other VISA/MCs like you posted above...
