I want to take my trekking poles to England but don't want to use a large suitcase to pack them. Any ideas on how to get them on the plane?
They cannot be taken on as carry-on. You could get a case for them and just check them.
I've fit them into a small duffle. Pack wrap other things around them so that you don't risk bending them. I bought new ones this year that actually fit into my roll aboard suitcase, which I then checked. You can't carry them on the plane. They have sharp tips and actually have the potential to be a pretty good weapon in thei right hands.

Mine are collapsible, too, and they fit in my 21". I've taken them everywhere from China to Costa Rica without a problem, but they have to be in checked luggage.
The poles should pull apart into 3 sections (depending on the brand) If you take the poles apart, you will have smaller sections and the poles will be easier to pack.
As stated before, you will not be able to put them in your carry on...they have to be checked due to the points on the end of the poles. Your post doesn't make it clear if you planned to try to carry on....
trekking poles are designed to come apart, to clean and service. If you are not aware of how to do this...take them back to the store where you purchased and ask the staff to show you now to do this....or just go to a store and ask the staff to show you on a pair at the store.
