I show a number of places in Munich on my Munich webpage. I've never stayed in any of them. I always stay at a place in the suburb that I like because they don't speak English, but these places have all been recommend by others on this website.

I can second Hotel Uhland. I also stayed at Hotel am Viktualienmarkt last year and found it very acceptable.

It depends on what you are looking for in a good hotel. I like Hotel Uhland because it is close to public transportation, a short ride from the main train station and Marienplatz, nice, clean rooms, a quiet area, great breakfast and great staff. It is also in my target price range.

Unless you are traveling by train and need quick access to the station, I would not recommend staying at the Hotel Germania. Though the hotel itself was very clean and the staff friendly and nice, the location (which was very close to the station) is not the most picturesque. We stayed there last year because our travels took us through Munich during Oktoberfest and there werent a lot of options left by the time we made reservations, and we did want to be close to the train station as we were only spending one day/night...
