Dear All, I'm from Malaysia, will be in Europe for 18 days in September with my family. It is the first Europe trip for all 4 of us. Here is my plan: DAY01-DAY07: Spend in UK. Plan to rent a car. DAY08: Travel to ROME. Plan to take Ryanair, earliest flight. DAY09-DAY10: Spend in ROME. Total 2.5 days in ROME. DAY11: Travel to MILAN. Plan to take Easyjet, earliest flight. DAY12: Travel to BERN. Plan to take train, midday train. Hopefully can have good view during the journey. MILAN is more like a stopover, because I cannot find cheap flights to BERN, train travel takes about 7 hours which also transits MILAN. Was planning VENICE instead of MILAN, but VENICE to BERN takes even longer. DAY13: Spend in BERN. DAY14: Travel to PARIS. Plan to take train, late train. Total 1.5 days in BERN. DAY15-DAY16: Spend in PARIS. DAY17: Travel back to LONDON. DAY18: Travel back to Malaysia. Queries: Q1) Is this plan too rush, will it be possible? Q2) For ITA, SWI, FRA, which is the better order to traverse? Q3) For ITA, SWI, FRA, is using EURAIL a better option? Q4) Is BERN a good choice?
Q5) What other options to travel from ROME to BERN? I can't find any flight by Ryanair or Easyjet. Would really appreciate all your kind opinions and answers. Thank you in advance!
dacyl, I have a few comments to begin with..... If you're travelling with RyanAir, BE SURE to pack light or you'll get nicked with "overweight baggage" charges, and they're not cheap! You might consider using EasyJet from LGW to FCO instead. They are also somewhat restrictive with baggage limits, but not the same as RyanAir. With your list of destinations, I might consider a different route, perhaps something along these lines: > Flight to London > London to Paris via EuroStar > Paris to Bern (you could also consider Lucerne - time to Bern 4H:38M with one change) > Bern to Venice by train (time 6H:36M with one change) > Venice to Rome by train (time 3H:46M with no changes) > Rome to London via EasyJet (flight time 1H:35M to LGW) That means you'll only need one budget flight on the trip. Whichever budget flights you're using, be sure to book early to get the best prices. Happy travels!
Do you already have the Malaysia-London flights? Because if not you'll save time and money by flying into London and out of Rome. Any particular reason to pick Bern? If I were going to Switzerland it would be pretty far down my list. I'd go back to the Lauterbrunnen area instead. You might look into night trains - see seat61.com.
