We are a group of 3, and are planning travel by car in Bavaria ending in Nuremberg, dropping the car in Nuremberg ( to avoid out of country drop fees) and taking a train to Colmar for 4 days in Alsace.
We have given consideration to dropping the car in either Stuttgart or Mannheim and picking up the train in one of those locations in order to reduce the time on the train.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Any help is appreciated!
I would go for more train time and less driving time, as I find the train more comfortable (and often quicker) than driving.
What Kim said.... :)
You can look up train times and prices on www.bahn.de. That way you can find out for yourself which place is more convenient, and where the appropriate balance between driving and taking the train lies for you.
Given that Nuremberg is basically a suburb of Mannheim either would work if you end your trip in that area. Stuttgart would be a bit of a detour.

???? 240 km is hardly a suburb.
