Where in Europe? What country, what city? The weather in Norway is not the same as the weather in Greece or Spain, or Germany or the UK.

Gauhar: I was about to give a really snappy answer about looking up the weather for each country, and don't be such a worrywart about the cold, and then I see you live in India! So you might actually really need advice! Since you mention this is a business, trip, it sounds like you will need to do business attire (suits) during the day, and then have to worry about the sightseeting part, where regular office clothes will not be warm enough. You will get a lot of folks telling you to pack thin layers, so you can be comfy whether indoors or out. Layers are a GREAT idea for days off, but I don't recommend putting on long johns under your suit and tie for days in meetings. Sounds like you are on the right track so far with clothing. I would add thin silk or wool socks that you can layer, gloves, and an umbrella and a scarf. I haven't stayed in a hostel in YEARS. Others will be able to tell you better about the blanket. From what I remember, blankets are provided.

I admit that I have next to no knowledge of weather in Uttar Pradesh (but I'm going to assume that it gets warmer than where I live)... However, even if you're only used to hot weather, most of the places you listed don't get terribly cold in November. Damp, yes, but except for Switzerland, you probably won't experience any temperatures below freezing. Stay dry and you'll probably stay warm enough.

I have found a rain shell to be very useful, not just for rain but also as a wind shell and generally a good layer (over all that other stuff). There are lightweight packable jackets available. Best to get a breathable one though. Best is waterproof breathable but water resistant works very well too, assuming that you also have an umbrella so that you do not get soaked. Do not get a waterproof jacket that does not breath, you will regret it. I also like lightweight polypro underwear and would suggest packing a set, upper an lower, in place of one of your woolen layers. Polypro gives warmth without bulk and is very comfortable and versatile. Best to have a range of options because you do not know what conditions you will encounter.

Gauhar, The others have already provided lots of good suggestions on clothing. Layering is a good idea for warmth, but I'd also suggest packing an Umbrella or other rain gear, and of course good footwear. On the question of Hostels, you might find it helpful to have a look at the HI Hostels website. I've found their properties are fairly consistent from one location to another, and breakfast is usually provided. Having a membership will provide cheaper rates as well as preferred booking. While the cost in Hostels is very reasonable, keep in mind that you'll likely be sharing Dorm rooms with several others. If you haven't stayed in Hostels before, this can be a bit of an "adjustment". You'll need to pack along a "travel towel" and a small but good quality Padlock (for the Lockers). There are also good quality budget Hotels listed in the Guidebooks, but given your location I realize you may not have access to these. If you have an iPad or Kindle, you MAY be able to download electronic versions of the Guidebooks. Happy travels!
