We'll be traveling to Stuttgart, Germany with our 2-1/2 yo and 5 y.o. in June for a family wedding. Any ideas for side trips we could take that will keep the kids happy, and help get us away from the rest of the family?

The area south of Stuttgart has lots of forests for walks and hikes. You might want to think about that as an option. I lived as a student in a town about 45 miles south of Stuttgart many years ago. Oddly, I remember a really good children's playground in Heidelberg! There's a great castle there too. I hope that someone answers with more current information for you. There does seem to be a zoo. Try posting this question over on Trip Advisor. There is a destination expert there from Stuttgart and he is FULL of ideas about what to see and do in and around Stuttgart. He is about as passionate about Stuttgart as I am about Frankfurt. Good Luck!
