Traveling with Ulcerative colitis

I have Ulcerative colitis and a real fear of traveling. Has anyone traveled with this condition and how have they coped?

My cousin has Crohns and is in college. She spent a semester last year in Florence and spent a good deal of her time traveling around Europe. She takes her meds, is cautious of flare-ups, and has a great attitude. She's not going to let the disease stop her.

If you google:

You will get lots of websites on the subject. Even one from a European group.

Well, I can offer this reassurance (from someone who doesn't have IBD). Public toilets are far more common in Europe than in the US. And if you travel via rail, there's always a toilet within easy reach.

When traveling in Europe, you will soon learn that the chain fast food places are best for free toilets.

I always scope the area for McDonalds, Burger King, or others. I have never been refused use of a restroom. I often buy a coffee or snack to show my appreciation for a CLEAN restroom.
