How does a person travel safely and legally with medical marijuana?

You can't -- medical marijuana is still a schdule 1 drug and will make the people at border control most unhappy.

You can travel within the state you live in.

You can't even legally import it into the Netherlands, which (for the time being) has the most lenient marijuana laws on the continent.

Not allowed to travel with it anywhere ( crossing borders).. it makes little sense in many ways.. but it is what it is..

Don't bother trying to get even the capsules or eatables in.. it can still be detected and its still illegal.

One doesn't travel safely and legally with marijuana - medical or other wise. Ever in Colorado which has legalized personal possession state-wide, you cannot carry it into the airport because airport is under federal control and the feds take a dim view of anyone possessing. You have to leave it home.

I wouldn't take it anywhere while traveling. Even in a state like Washington where it's legal for over-21s there are still very specific rules about driving around with it in your car from place to place. You can't even carry it in your glove box unless it is sealed in original packaging.

Residents of other EU countries can bring prescribed narcotic or psychotropic substances, including cannabis, into the UK as long as they have a certificate authorising this from their own country for 30 days. This would apply across the whole EU.

If you aren't an EU resident though ...

The UK incidentally still doesn't recognise that there is any medicinal value in cannabis and hence has it as a schedule 1 drug, as opposed to say heroin. Some cannabis derivatives though are recognised.

And after Brexit?

Where is Rick when we need him?

donna,

AFAIK, there is no way to "travel safely and legally with medical marijuana". Nobody cares that you have a permit to use medical marijuana in your home area. You'll have to follow the laws of the jurisdictions you're travelling to.

Your profile doesn't indicate where you're from but don't try to travel to Canada with marijuana, medical or otherwise, as you'll end up in handcuffs and in a cell.

Who knows what a million and one things will be after Brexit. It hasn't even been invoked yet.
