Anyone else have trouble with MSN freezing your email account while you were traveling with your IPAD? I was on my way to Portugal from Portland several weeks ago and I had a stop over in San Francisco where I used my IPAD. Upon arriving in Portugal I had an email from MSN saying they had froze my email account and all my contacts because I had used my IPAD somewhere other than my home in Portland. I always notify my banks and credit card companies when I travel but didn't think I had to notify my internet provider. It was unbelievable the hoops that I had to jump through to get my account unfrozen!
Kathleen, That's one of the strangest things I've ever heard. I fail to understand the logic of freezing a customer's account simply because they're accessing their E-mail in a different city (or country). If my E-mail provider ever tried to pull cr@p like that, I'd "give them the boot" very quickly! Hope the rest of your trip went well.
This intrigued me so I tried to find out if others had reported the same problem. There are many posts on various MSN forums indicating it's a common problem. Apparently Microsoft blocks accounts if there have been too many log-in attempts, they have detected that the account is infected with a virus or other malware that could spread, or the account has been hacked and without the owner's knowledge is being used to broadcast spam. The reason they give in their 'Account Blocked' alert message is probably fairly generic.
