When we took our 12 and 9 year old to Europe, we had a mix of traditional museums (British Museum, Orsay, etc), fun stuff (like Legoland, open air folk parks, animals, and bus city tours), and down time to rest, read, draw, etc.

We varied our modes of travel too...planes, trains, hovercraft, subways, etc.

We also including them in the planning and discussions in the months leading up to the big trip (our first out of the country) because the lead up is part of the fun.

Not sure how old your kids are but this is what helps us:

Most of all, go with an open mind and go with the flow. Know that not everything will go as planned and things may have to be cancelled and rearranged but the memories you will make will last lifetime!

More detail would help greatly. Where, when, how old, how long???

I highly recommend you watch the PBS television series "Travel with Kids." If you can't find it on the PBS website go to YouTube (a number if their shows can be seen there) or go directly to their website. They have a number of shows on various destinations in Europe. The shows are great!
