Thans a lot
When are you leaving France?
The long term stay visa allows you to stay in France for the given period but you are still limited to 90 out of 180 days for the remainder of Schengen.
Type D is issued for a particular length of continuous residency in France. It does not confer any special privileges for travel in the rest of the Schengen Area according to multiple visa websites. It should be clear in the paperwork you received.
So you are restricted to the usual Schengen rules outside of France, no more than 90 days in any 180.
Do your relocations to Italy and Portugal add to more than 90? If so you have a problem.
Nigel, if he is not in France for 90 days in any 180 days, does that cause him a problem as well? I ask because thats in the terms of my visa.
veillettephilippe I think it is good of you to ask, especially since you know there are no Schengen border checks (generally). Shows you have character.
You can only be outside of France in the Schengen area for 90 days. I would also advise you to fly home from France because bells and whistles will go off if you fly from Italy or Portugal or another Schengen country besides France because it will appear you have been in country way past 90 days based on your entry and exit dates.
