Hi,
I'm spending some time in Italy this summer in a study abroad program. I've been there a few times, so having 2 1/2 weeks after the program I decided that I wanted to travel to other areas. I've found a Croatia sailing trip that sounds excellent for a week, and I've always wanted to go to Croatia. However, I'm not sure where to go after that - based on flight prices, etc my options for the 2nd week are (1) stay in Croatia; (2) Prague/Czech Republic; (3) Sicily; or maybe trying to make it to Malta, Sardinia, or Corfu (all a bit more challenging though). Any suggestions? I should note that I am travelling on a budget and on my own (therefore, safety is a factor).
Thanks!!
Any of those you have mentioned. Or take the regular ferries which go between Greek islands - not a cruise ship. I think there is a ferry from Croatia to Palermo, or ferry to Bari then take the bus to Messina or on further.
After your sailing trip go inland to Zabreb for a couple of days and then go on to Prague via Slovenia. English is widely spoken in Slovenia and the scenery is great.
A couple of different options that don't involve flying:
- travel south into Montenegro (Kotor, Budva, Ulcinj)
- Travel eastwards to Mostar, Sarajevo and then onto Belgrade
- Travel north as already suggested into Slovenia and from there move onto Austria
Lots of possibilities - look at a map and decide what you want to do. Anything is possible if you are willing to spend either the money or the time or both. I tend to stick to close by areas that are interesting to me. This cuts down on the long long distance travel and in most situations bus/train is far cheaper than flying especially when one factors in the taxes and getting to/from the airports.
