Traveling to Europe in late December/January.

I have never been to Europe in Dec/Jan and would like to know how it is. My son has off from Dec 15 to Jan 15 and we would like to go for three weeks starting after Christmas. We are looking for warm to moderate weather and are interested in looking at traveling from Barcelona to Southern Spain and into Tangiers, or Rome to Siclily via Naples or and finaly Athens and the Greek Islands. Any help you can give me to narrow down my surch would be great.

I was a teacher in London for a year. When it came time to plan a Xmas break, we checked out the weather in various Mediterranean destinations and found Sicily to have the best chance for warmth. We had a fabulous trip, in addition to the good weather. Epiphany and New Year's Eve are grand celebrations, especially the latter in Palermo. At that time of year, the churches have wonderful creches, more like miniature Sicilian villages than religious works. Then, there's all the usual wonderful sights and fantastic food. We also spent a different Xmas break in Rome. That was great, too; and the weather was very mild.

From the OP: "I have never been to Europe in Dec/Jan and would like to know how it is....We are looking for warm to moderate weather."

What got my attention is going to Europe in Dec/Jan and looking for moderate weather--that narrows your choices down, and you will definitely want to research the typical weather, using the links provided by Steve in the above post, in order to get a location with the kind of weather you're looking for.

Another website that will be useful to give you an idea of typical weather is this one.
