Hello, My gf and I will be traveling to Barcelona in October and I have been having a difficult time finding lodging within our budget. We wanted to rent an apartment but that search has proved rather difficult so now we are open to hotels / inns etc. Can someone please suggest some options in the $100-$135 USD per night range centrally located / close to transportation? Thank you!
The RS's Spain book has a chapter on Barcelona including a variety of accommodations in various price ranges depending on the neighborhood you're hoping to stay in. I would start there.
Hi! Our friends recommended Hotel Barcelona Universal as it is right on Las Ramblas. We are staying there when we go in the summer. The "Universal Room" is going for 122 Euro a night in October. http://www.hotelbarcelonauniversal.com/
Check out the site www.madridman.com. He has an excellent site there on Barcelona with lots of good recommendations.
I booked the Aparthotel Silver for our trip in July on recommendations. It's next to metro (2 stops from the center of Las Ramblas action) in Gracia & has a kitchenette in room with shops & grocery close by. Just what I was looking for & worth you checking out!
tripadvisor.com is a good source of information on rooms. It will give you rates, amenities, map locations and reviews. The reviews are helpful to get an idea of the hotel. Remember different travelers have different preferences. As an example, when a traveler complains about the limited room service menu, I ignore it completely because I never use room service (if anything I'll avoid hotels that charge extra for services I don't want or need). Noise and cleanliness are the things I care about most.

Shawn, If you're looking for an apartment, check out Friendly Rentals.com I just had a look and they seem to have lots of apartments in and around your price range. We book apartments through them last year, and the apartments were exactly as advertised. You'll love Barcelona.
