My boyfriend and I are planning on doing some travelling in Europe in mid-June. The only plans we have for sure are that we are going to start in Prague and would like to visit Venice. Just wondering if there are any suggestions for cool places to go and any "hidden gems". We don't have a car, but could rent one. Thanks!
Two years ago my wife and I spent 2 weeks in Europe. A portion of the trip included Prague, Vienna (could do a day trip to Budapest), Salzburg with an overnight train to Venice. Then on to Florence, Rome and the Amalfi Coast. Wonderful
While you're in Venice, take time to visit Burano, Murano and Torcello! For other Venice tips (and for other cities) you can use the search bar at the top and find threads about restaurants, museums and other "hidden gems" for many cities.
You didn't mention what you are interested in seeing or doing; do you prefer city life, or do you want to experience the countryside as well? Art, history, culture, people-watching, shopping, hiking, nightlife or beaches? What's your definition of "cool places?" Does your 14 days include your arrival and departure days? Honestly, not many gems are hidden. However, some places that we visited several years ago in the Czech Republic are less well-known to U.S. and Canadian travelers. We spent 4 nights in Prague, then picked up a rental car and drove to the town of Telc, about 2 hours south of Prague, visiting several old castles on the way. We spent two nights in Telc, a tiny but gorgeous little town, visiting other castles, a chateau and interesting villages in the area. We then drove east to Olomouc, a university town. We visited some castles in that area, as well as interesting buildings in the town. Or, for a trip that's more city-focused, you could visit Prague, then take the train to Vienna (also visiting Bratislava, Slovakia). From there, taking the train to Venice. That could easily use up your time right there.
I'd suggest Brno, Czech Republic.
