Should we rent a car in Paris to travel north or ride the train to Rouen and travel by car from there?

We took the train from Paris to Bayeux and got a rental car there. Many people get cars in Caen also. We were going to drop our car off in Rouen to head back to Paris, but plans changed. I know some people drive directly from Paris but the congestion getting out of the airport caused us concern, so this plan worked for us.

That also answers my next question about the airport and returning the car there. Sounds like we should take the train back to de Gaulle and not try to return the care there. We are on the Rick Steves Paris tour first then trying to find our way to Normandy after.
