I was wondering if anyone has had an experience of traveling by train from Madrid to Zurich and if that was even feasible compared to flying. I can just look up the train schedule I guess. Thanks for any advise. I understand that I can't even make reservations until 3 months before my flight which will be in June of next year.
The viable connections between Zurich and Madrid take 14h or more of travel time. For instance, you can leave 9:34 and arrive 23:55 with transfers in Geneve, Lyon and Barcelona.
I think this is way too much for a train trip, flights will serve you better.
I don't think its worth the hassle, you'll find flight tickets to be almost same or even more cheaper than the train tickets. If you plan to fly then total flight time is only about 2 hours and 20 minutes more or less, unless you're an adventurer and love the scenery along the way while traveling on trains.
Train tickets start from about €225 when purchased about 4 months in advance, but also depending on travel date. Air Europa flies for about $55 and Swissair for $79.
