traveling from Atlanta to barcelona

We are taking a cruise leaving from Barcelona to Venice in May. We are thinking of a RT flight to Barcelona and from Venice to Barcelona after the cruise. Is this the best and most effective way to travel?

Hi Allen,

Here are some options:

  1. Delta (for example) flies non-stop to Barcelona so you could monitor the airfares on www.kayak.com (use "Fare Alert" feature) to look for a good price for a round trip ticket. It's probably early to get a good fare for May.

  2. You could use the "Multi-City" feature to search for airfares into Barcelona and home from Venice rather than flying back to Barcelona after your cruise.

  3. If you want to fly back to Barcelona, you can look at www.whichbudget.com OR www.flylc.com to determine what budget European airline would get you back to Barcelona after your cruise. From what I see today, it looks like Air Berlin, Vueling, and Air Europa are options.

Hope that helps!

I would suggest flying "open jaw," meaning into Barcelona and back home from Venice, if that suits your budget. Generally, you save time, money and stress by doing it this way. The flights might look a tiny bit more expensive, but you come out way ahead when you factor in the price of transportation to get back to your original starting point. We always fly open jaw ... it has saved us a ton of headaches (and cash!) over the years. Enjoy your trip -- sounds like a good one!

Does Delta fly from Venice to Atlanta? If not, you could also look into getting a train to a town they do fly out of and going open-jaw from there.

Delta does fly from Venice to Atlanta--the train would be another option but it would be a pretty long trip--about 12 hours!
