Traveling France -Germany in early November

We have an opportunity for a week in Europe in early November. We can go to either Frankfurt or Zurich. Has anyone had any experience traveling in Europe in November? We know it is off season and are afraid that wine tasting may be out and some hotels/B&B's may be closed. Any help would be appreciated

Connie - I think the rhine cruises also stop in Oct - but look up the castles alogn the rhine... the train is still great to go to the cool cities and towns along the Rhine & Mosel. Koln may also be nice with the famous cathedral. Not sure about Rothenburg - but Wurtzburg would not be far either.

For Zurich - same idea - try the big cahteldras castles and museums - but check the book/schedules.

and in either case - do as the locals do! (whatever they are doing in NOV!)... the christmas markets may be starting in both countrys!

Connie, Germans do wine tastings all year around. All the vintners along the Wine Road (which starts at the Franco-German border in Wissembourg and goes up to the Mainz area, where you can cross to Wiesbaden for the Rheingau Riesling area) are open even on weekends. The downside of traveling Central Europe (Germany, Switerland, Eastern France, Austria etc.) in November usually is the weather. Expect grey skies and frequent rain. Temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s. I don't know how early in November you're traveling but Thursday, Nov 1st is a public holiday in some of the German states (All Saints) where really absolutely everything will be closed (apart from gas stations).
